baked beans



  • 2 cups dried Cannelloni or Bolotti beans OR 2 x 400g cans of Cannelloni or Bolotti beans
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion finely diced
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed (or one teaspoon crushed garlic)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 x 400g cans tinned, crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon mixed herbs (dried or fresh)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • Pinch salt



  1. Prepare dry beans as per packet instructions or if using canned, drain and rinse under cold water
  2. Heat olive oil in pan.
  3. Fry onion and garlic on medium heat for 5 mins
  4. Add sugar and stir, cook for 2 minutes
  5. Add tinned tomatoes, herbs, tomato paste, salt and beans
  6. Mix and cook for 30 mins
  7. Serve on roasted sweet potatoes or rice or toast with side salad


Add some chilli to taste
Add some extra veg by adding freshly diced tomatoes or red capsicum or zucchini (Add after the sugar)
